Andrew Federman is a New York City-based photographer and cinematographer. His work reveals the often unnoticed details and fleeting beauty in both tranquil and chaotic environments. He has photographed the Tribeca Film Festival Drive-In, the Fragrance Foundation’s “FiFi” awards, the IFP’s Gotham Awards, the Deitch Art Parade, children’s portraits for the Elizabeth Glazer Pediatric AIDS Foundation’s Kids for Kids family carnival, the Tanzanite Foundation’s design awards, an underwear promotional tent for freshpair.com in Times Square on national underwear day, and many other premiers, awards ceremonies, film sets, and art installations.
As a cinematographer, he worked on a film about the twilight years and bitter memories of a summer community of Holocaust survivors in the feature documentary Four Seasons Lodge (with the legendary Al Maysles), captured a raw and ecstatic cello composition on 16mm film for the contemporary composer and visual artist Joe Diebes in his installation, Scherzo, which recently premiered at UCLA’s Hammer Museum, and shot the uproarious short film, Player, about a washed-up actor’s unwitting descent into a world of crime, for Raw Impressions Ripfest #7, which played to sold-out audiences at New York’s Anthology Film Archives. He also worked as the sole lighting assistant with cinematographer Antonio Rossi, crafting a somber and striking look on the Oscar-nominated documentary No End In Sight.
His photographs have been exhibited at New Century Artists in NYC, and his experimental short film, Avalanche, shot in Russia and Latvia, was shown at Parallel Projects at the New York Design Center.
